Fermoy Rifle Club Ireland A Little History About Us |

|
Fermoy Rifle Club was founded in 1992 and is one of the best-known Clubs in the country. This has not happened by chance, but through the hard work and dedication of our members, committees and volunteers and from the continued, tremendous support the Club had received from our neighbours in Ballyhooly, and from all “target shooters” around Ireland. We have tremendous pride in all our shooters who have won numerous national and International titles in the last 15 years. This achievement was only possible having dedicated many hours to training and from digging deep into their own pockets. Let us not forget the support we have received from our National Governing Body, the Shooting Sports Association of Ireland, and the hard working Irish Sports Council. Where did it all start? In February 1992 a group of enthusiastic Fermoy lads met in a local licensed premises, in Fermoy with the purpose of setting up a Sporting Rifle Club. A Committee was formed and Fermoy Rifle Club started with seven members. Their first task was to find a suitable site on which they could set up a Rifle Range. One of the founder members, Kieran Barry was an established “target Shooter” that had experience in National and International Competitions. He was also a member of the National Governing Body of rifle and pistol shooting here in Ireland. Kieran made contact with the Committee of the National Rifle and Pistol Association of Ireland (now known as the Shooting Sports Association of Ireland) who gave all necessary assistance and advise. In December 1993 the Club secured a lease on a disused sandpit at Ballydague, Ballyhooly, where they are presently located.
